Connecting the value chain
of backend electronics
under data sovereignty
BACK-X is an interoperable and federated data space for dispensing, curing, testing and inspection processes. Share, govern and use industrial data under Gaia-X principles and the Eclipse EDC protocol.
A data space built
for real industry
BACK-X is not just technology infrastructure. It is a governed ecosystem where plant data becomes shareable assets under explicit conditions.
Data sovereignty
The Data Owner decides what is shared, with whom and under which conditions. ONIZEA, as Federator, never accesses the content without an explicit contract.
Eclipse EDC interoperability
Eclipse EDC connectors for contract negotiation and secure transfer between nodes, enabling federation with other European industrial data spaces.
Real backend processes
Designed specifically for dispensing, curing, ICT testing and AOI. Data models adapted to MES, Asymtek equipment, Pemtron and vertical ovens.
AI and advanced analytics
BACK-X data products are the basis for ML models, predictive analysis, proactive maintenance and process energy optimization.
GDPR & Gaia-X compliance
ODRL policies enforceable by the EDC connector, traceability in the Clearing House and certifiable Self-Descriptions under the Gaia-X Trust Framework.
Federated multi-tenant
Multi-tenant platform operated by ONIZEA, with federation of connectors from MSTECH, UC3M and future participants under a central BACK-X node.
Practical plant scenarios
Five use cases validated under real operating conditions at MSTECH (Catalonia).
Intelligent connection of backend machinery
Integration of equipment from different manufacturers (dispensing, curing, AOI, testing) in an interoperable environment. BACK-X acts as an integration layer creating the unified digital thread.
BACKX.LineMachineEvents.v1
Federated industrial data space
BACK-X node as a multi-tenant platform connected to other nodes through Eclipse EDC connectors, with data contracts and sovereignty policies automatically enforced.
Predictive performance analytics
Historical and near-real-time backend process data to train ML models. Early alerts for downtime, anomalies and process adjustment recommendations.
MES and ERP integration
BACK-X orchestrates exchange between backend equipment, MES and ERP while keeping production orders, batch states, consumptions and quality results aligned.
Real-plant demonstrator · MSTECH
Validation of the BACK-X space under real operating conditions at the Catalonia plant, with real dispensing, curing, testing and AOI data.
Each actor, its own path
BACK-X defines specific roles for each type of participant. The same actor can assume multiple roles simultaneously.
Manufacturers and data producers
Ex: MSTECH— backend plant in Catalonia
As a manufacturer, you are the legal owner of the data generated in your plant. You decide which data is published in BACK-X, under what conditions and with what access level.
- Publish MES and backend equipment datasets through your Eclipse EDC connector
- Define usage policies (ODRL) automatically enforced by the connector
- Consume analytics, KPIs and dashboards derived from your own data
- Set visibility: Public, Restricted or Private per dataset
Pilot actors
ONIZEA
BACK-X governance authority. Operates the multi-tenant platform, defines space rules and manages the participant lifecycle. Founded in 2022, specialized in AI and technology-social impact projects.
MSTECH
Data provider and producer. Generates backend production data (dispensing, curing, testing, AOI) at its Catalonia plant and publishes it in BACK-X under usage policies agreed through the Eclipse EDC connector.
UC3M · DAIMA
Carlos III University of Madrid, DAIMA research group. Designs and implements AI/ML algorithms, deploys advanced analytics services and supports the technical integration of the data space.
Is your organization part of the electronics value chain?
EMS/OSAT manufacturers, equipment providers, R&D centers and OEMs: BACK-X is open to new participants that comply with governance rules and have a verified digital identity.
